‘Exploring the role of family businesses in supporting local growth’ will explore what it takes to build a business spanning four generations, operates internationally and remains committed to the city where it all began.
Founded in Glasgow 119 years ago, McAlpine & Co continues to manufacture its plumbing products in Scotland, employing around 780 people and selling to more than 90 countries. Ross McAlpine, the fourth-generation leader, will be having a fireside chat with FBUK CEO Neil Davy, hosted by our FBUK Partners JP Morgan.
About the event
We’ll explore the decisions, challenges and opportunities that have shaped the business, from protecting its heritage and embracing change to investing in Glasgow and preparing for the future.

- Modernising a family business: How to embrace change without losing the values and strengths that have sustained a business for generations.
- Investing in people and communities: The role of family businesses in creating jobs, developing skills and supporting the places in which they operate.
- Looking to the future: Navigating the challenges of succession, changing markets and building a business for the next generation.
- Creating the conditions for growth: What’s holding back business investment and ambition, and what government and policymakers can do to help.
